Applicator Licensing Atlas
Select a state to see the licenses and certifications required to apply herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, and organic amendments — plus state chemical restrictions that go beyond federal law.
Federal baseline (all 50 states): herbicides and insecticides are both “pesticides” under FIFRA. Applying a Restricted Use Pesticide requires a certified applicator (private for your own ag land, commercial otherwise), and applying any pesticide for hire requires a state commercial applicator license in the proper category. Paraquat additionally requires EPA-approved training.
